ÖIF Levels + Exams

"Deutsch in Österreich" is a licenced exam center for various levels of the Austrian Integration Fund (ÖIF). The activities of the ÖIF are directed at recognized refugees, beneficiaries of subsidiary protection, non-member citizens, people with migration backgrounds etc.

All levels of the Austrian Integration Fund correspond to the European Common Framework of Reference for Languages.

Exam Level
Integration exam A1 (with value contents)
The A1 Integration exam consists of both language content and value and orientation content.

The exam items regarding values and orientation competence are based on the learning objectives set out in the A1 Framework curriculum of the
ÖIF and address the central topics of everyday living together, like education and communication, work and business, health, living and neighbourhood environment as well as the principles and variety of living together with reference to lawful and cultural integration. The topics are developed in the German courses. Sample questions on value and orientation competence at A1 level.

The written part lasts 120 min. (not including a 15-min. break). The oral part is conducted with groups of max. 4 candidates and lasts per group ca. 15 min.

A1 - Fit for Austria (without value content)
A1 - Fit for Austria is a standardized test with a pragmatic approach and is directed at learners who would like to demonstrate their ability to handle communication situations, especially very simply ones revolving around concrete need (for example,  introducing yourself, eating and drinking, shopping, living). The new test format mixes language competences at the A1 level of the European Common Frame of Reference for Languages.

The A1 – Fit for Austria is recognized as an A1 level certificate. The test has a written part (80 min.) and an oral part (20 min. per candidate).

Integration exam A2 (with value contents) – Module 1 of the 2017 Integration Agreement
The A2 Integration exam contributes to the satisfaction of requirements for Module 1 of the Integration Agreement and tests both language competence and knowledge of values and orientation.

The exam items regarding values and orientation competence are based on the learning objectives set out in the A2 Framework curriculum of the
ÖIF and address the central topics of everyday living together, like educations and communication, work and business, health, living and neighbourhood environment as well as the principles and variety of living together with reference to lawful and cultural integration. The topics are developed in the German courses and the relative exam questions are adapted to the corresponding language level so as to make them easy to understand. The written part lasts 125 min. (not including a 15-min. break) and is divided into the components reading, listening and writing, including knowledge about values and orientation. This part is followed by the oral exam, which takes 10 min. per candidate.
A2
A2 ÖIF Test new 2011 (without value contents)
This version of the ÖIF Test is available as an additional test format at A2 level. With the A2 ÖIF Test new you have an officially recognized certificate of German language competence at A2 level which satisfies the requirements of Module 1 of the 2011 Integration Agreement. The A2 ÖIF Test new is oriented toward the everyday reality of the target group immigrants.

The  A2
ÖIF Test new consists of a written part and an oral part. The written part lasts 80 min. and the oral 10 min. per candidate. The oral part is essentially the same as the ÖIF test.

The
ÖIF Test new has the advantage that the receptive skills reading and listening, which often constitute a hurdle for learners, are assessed together. In this way candidates have the possibility to balance individual weaknesses in one module with strengths in the other.
A2
DTÖ – A2 German test for Austria (without value contents)
This is a German exam at the A2 level based on a model developed in Germany by the Goethe Institut e.V. and telc GmbH and adapted for Austria by telc on commission by the Austrian Integration Fund.

The tasks are geared to the special communication needs of the target group immigrants and are oriented toward practical activities. The DT
Ö takes into consideration individual language learning processes and enables exam candidates to demonstrate their effective language competence in terms of the levels of the European Common Framework of Reference.
A2
DTÖ – B1 German test for Austria (without value contents)
This is a German exam at the B1 level based on a model developed in Germany by the Goethe Institut e.V. and telc GmbH and adapted for Austria by telc on commission by the Austrian Integration Fund.

B1
Integration exam B1 (with value contents) – Module 2 of the 2017 Integration Agreement
The B1 Integration exam contributes to the satisfaction of requirements for Module 1 of the Integration Agreement and tests both language competence and knowledge of values and orientation.

The exam items regarding values and orientation competence are based on the learning objectives set out in the B1 Framework curriculum of the
ÖIF and address the central topics of everyday living together, like educations and communication, work and business, health, living and neighbourhood environment as well as the principles and variety of living together with reference to lawful and cultural integration. The topics are developed in the German courses and the relative exam questions are adapted to the corresponding language level so as to make them easy to understand. The written part lasts 140 min. (not including a 15-min. break) and is divided into the components reading, listening and writing, including knowledge about values and orientation. This part is followed by the oral exam, which may be conducted with candidates singly or in pairs. It lasts 16 min. 
B1
B2-ÖIF-Test
This test was developed by telc GmbH and adapted for Austria. The test assesses general knowledge of German at an advanced level: at a B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEF) learners can understand complex texts on concrete and abstracts topics. Their active vocabulary is wide-ranging enough for learners to be able to express themselves clearly and autonomously on most subjects and in their own area of interest to conduct detailed discussions.

The  B2-
ÖIF-Test consists of a written part lasting 2 hours and 20 minutes and an oral part, which lasts ca. 15 minutes and may be administered to two or three candidates simultaneously. The written part is composed of the modules reading comprehension, building blocks of language, listening comprehension and written expression. Candidates have 20 minutes to prepare before the oral test.
